Known since the 14th century, Monbazillac is one of the most famous sweet wines in France. The Dutch discovered it in the 17th century, when many Huguenots from Bergerac, driven out by the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, emigrated to this country. Its vineyard, spread over the southern coast of the Dordogne valley, enjoys a temperate climate, conducive to the development of noble rot caused by "Botrytis Cinerea", essential for the production of sweet wines.
