Mumm Cordon Rouge: the emblem of the House It is to Georges Hermann Mumm, who bequeathed his initials, that we owe this emblematic cuvée of the House. In 1876, to honor his prestigious clients, he decided to adorn the bottle with a red silk ribbon, a sign of the Royal Order of Saint-Louis and then of the Grand Cordon of the Legion of Honor. A favorite of sovereigns, the red cord became so famous that it ended up embodying the symbol of the brand. The cellar master explains: "As the signature of the House, this cuvée requires perpetuating its style: the subtle balance between freshness and intensity." Indeed, the originality of the Maison Mumm vineyard is reflected in the blend of this cuvée: predominance of pinot noir, strong presence of chardonnay and a touch of meunier. To complete the blend and ensure consistency of style, the Cellar Master incorporates 25 to 30% of reserve wines, to bring complexity to the final blend while giving it more breadth.
